In this FAQ section I give some answers to the most frequent questions I get as a professional organizer.

WHAT IS A PROFESSIONAL ORGANIZER?
A professional organizer helps you declutter and organize your home, office and life by clearing out your space and organize your items in a way that you find what you need.
WHY SHOULD I GET HELP FROM YOU RATHER THAN DO IT MYSELF?
I think you can do it yourself. It just won't happen.
You can think of me as your personal trainer - you know what you need to do but you might need a push in the right direction to get the job done.

WHAT IS THE FIRST STEP?
There are three ways:
1. You visit the tab "Book a consultation" and fill out the form and tell me what you want help with. Click "send" and I will receive a mail.
2. You can mail me directly with the mail address listed on the consultation page.
3. You can phone me and we can set a consultation call that suits us both.
During the consultation we will examine your needs, goals and budget. and we also look at a time plan for your project. After our call, I will create an action plan so that you know exactly what we agreed upon and what will be needed before, during and after my visit (or video call if you want a virtual coaching session).

DO I NEED TO BE PRESENT DURING THE DECLUTTERING?
Yes, partly. If you hire me as a consultant I count on you to want to get rid of this problem once and for all. That's why I want you to be present during the decluttering phase, so I can coach you to proceed with the process on your own between sessions.

ARE YOU GOING TO THROW ALL OF MY STUFF AWAY?
I do not throw anything away without your permission. But sometimes I will ask questions that can be perceived as uncomfortable and even triggering. This is because I want to encourage and coach you to make the right decisions about what to keep and what to toss.
I'M SENTIMENTAL AND HAVE A HARD TIME LETTING STUFF GO - CAN YOU HELP ME ANYWAY?
To let things go that has served a purpose for you is an emotional process. I help you get through this journey and will be there for you throughout the process.
If you suffer from a severe depression, have mental health issues or have hoarding tendencies, the first step at this stage could be to contact a psychiatrist. I can then come on board at a later stage and help you. But since I'm not a psychiatrist, I reserve the right to turn down a job that I think is out of my range and capacity.

HOW CAN I BEST PREPARE TO GET AS MUCH VALUE AS POSSIBLE FROM OUR SESSIONS?
1. Start to mentally prepare to separate from some of your belongings.
2. If you have small children, book a babysitter so that we can work without interruption. This way you can get as much value as possible out of our work together.
3. Check your storage options: containers, jars, boxes etc. If you want I will purchase containers for storage, but we want to use what you already have in the first place.

WHAT RESULTS CAN I EXPECT?

* To declutter your home can be an emotional process. Expect that emotions can surface and you can get in touch with your past in unexpected ways. This is exactly as it should be.

*I focus on creating practical, efficient systems and routines that make sense for you and your family.
You get to have more energy, reduce stress, have a sense of control and find what you're looking for every time.
*You can expect to save and earn a lot of money: You might sell some of your stuff, you find what you seek, and you don't have to purchase new items now that you know where everything is.

WHAT ABOUT "EMBARRASSING" ITEMS?
I have seen a lot, and nothing is too embarrassing for me.

I'M ASHAMED OF THE MESS. DO I HAVE TO CLEAN UP BEFORE THE SESSION?
No. You do not have to clean anything. The idea with my sessions is that you are going to get your home neat and tidy, right?
But I will suggest some simple techinques that I would wish for you do use in order to keep your space organized once we're done. That way you don't have to hire me again 😃

CAN I GET A RUT DEDUCTION?
Some professional organiziers offer RUT deductions because they also offer cleaning services.
This does not apply to me, as I do not offer regular cleaning of spaces. What is included in my tasks is drying out in cupboards, drawers, etc.

DO I HAVE TO AGREE TO YOU TAKING BEFORE- AND AFTER- PICTURES?
Absolutely not! If you're willing to help me by letting me take pictures to share on my website and social media I would be delighted, but you're in charge and you have to give me consent. I'll even let you fill out an agreement before our sessions so that we both know what we've agreed on.
